Batteries: Many Cameras come with a one or two hour battery, but having a second battery is a good idea in case you run out of power and can't get anywhere to charge the only battery you have available. A few cameras on the market have an addional feature that lets you use regular alkaline batteries in place of your NiCad battery, if it runs out and there is no place or time to charge it.

Tapes: Tapes depend on the format that your camcorder supports. The six different types of formats are DV (for digital), 8mm (for 8 millimeter format), HI8 (for HI 8 millimeter format), VHS (for VHS format), VHS-C (for compact VHS format), and SVHS-C (for Compact Super VHS format).

Tripods: Tripods are used to help keep videos steady (the best way to have steady video shots is not to shake the video camera at all). Tripods, combined with the new LCD screens being included on many new camcorders,  allow you to turn the LCD screen and let you take video and be in them too.

Cases: Cases are meant as a convenient and safe way to transport you video equipment. Many cases are made from high grade hard plastic or Cordura to greatly minimize any damage to your camcorder as a result of high and low impact damage.

Lights: If you plan on video taping at night that an external light is a must have. Lights make the colors more realistic in darker situations.

Lens Protector: There many ways of damaging your camcorder lens including high impact damage, scratching the lens, or even cleaning it too much. Damage to lenses can become permanent blemishes to your videos. Lens protectors cover your lenses while you shoot in order to prevent damage.

Head Cleaners: Video heads (unlike the heads on audio equipment) are self cleaning. Head cleaners aren't needed until the quality of the videos are noticeably reduced.

Car Cords: Car cords allow you to charge your camcorder batteries in your car. A Good idea if you take your camcorder traveling. Just another way to keep you from running out of power during those important videos.
