LCD Screen Cams: A number of camcorders have been including an LCD screen. This feature lets the viewer see what they are recording with both eyes (eliminating some of the eye strain of looking through a viewfinder with one eye). More Angled shots can be achieved by tilting the camera one way and tilting the viewfinder another. This feature also makes playback easier than with a small viewfinder.

Image Stabilization: This feature helps to eliminate some of the shaking that most people will do with there hand while recording. This feature is strongly recommended because of how it improves the quality of most videos shot with a camcorder. There three types of image stabilization features. The first is electronic stabilization. It causes the camcorder to automatically adjust for any shaking of the camcorder that shouldn't be there. The second type is an optical image stabilization. This type uses different lenses to adjust for any motion or movement that doesn't seem natural. The last type is digital image stabilization. It adjusts for when the camcorder is shaking but won't overcompensate for when you pan or tilt the camera.

Color Viewfinder: This option lets you view in color while recording through a quality image viewfinder. There is another option as an add on to this one that is offered on some camcorders. It is called a solar window panel and enables outside light to enter into the viewfinder and brighten the display.

Higher Zooms: The higher the zoom the farther away you can see. Higher zooms (zooms higher than on most entry level camcorders) come in the range of 12 to 1 to 20 to 1.

Digital Zooms: This feature digitally enhances an image that is at an optical zoom higher than 12 to 1. With a digital zoom there is no lessening in picture quality (up to 24:1)

Instant Zoom: This feature lets you instantly zoom to 1.5 times of your current view with one button touch.

Optical or Laser Link: This feature is for 8mm and HI8 Camcorders. It uses an infrared transmitter to transmit a video signal from your camcorder to a receiver that is connected to your VCR.

Eye Control: This feature automatically focuses the camera at whatever you are looking at (at whatever is in the center of the viewfinder).

Alkaline Battery: On certain camcorders there is a place to but regular alkaline batteries if you run out of power on the NiCad batteries usually used for camcorders.
