Sony DVP-S7700 DVD

[ Key Features | Specifications ]

Features

System

  • Plays three disc formats (DVD, Video CD and Audio CD).
  • Dual Discrete optical pickup has separate lasers optimized for CD (780nm wavelength) and DVD (650nm). Enables stable, accurate playback of both types of discs. There's no lens switching.
  • DSP (Digital Signal Processor) Servo LSI for up to 20% faster track and chapter access, improved tracking, enhanced special effects. In addition, it adaptively finds optimum servo conditions according to each disc's physical characteristics.
  • Tilt servo and digital RF processing for optimum disc tracking.

Video

  • Spectacular video pictures thanks to DVD's component digital video.
  • Horizontal resolution of over 500 lines for amazing picture detail.
  • SmoothScan™ picture search with 32-bit RISC microprocessor for superior scan quality in Frame Advance, Slow Motion and High-Speed Search?all in forward and reverse.
  • 10-bit Video Digital-to-Analog Converter with 27 MHz speed minimizes digital artifacts and renders picture gradations closer to the original movie master.
  • 4-tap Weighted Average Letterbox filter for greater stability than 2-tap filters, reduces interline flicker and jagged edges.
  • Digital Video Noise Reduction reduces flickering background noise in the still areas of scenes that contain movement. Pictures are clearer and viewing is more enjoyable.
  • Field and frame still for high resolution or blur-free still pictures.
  • Component video output maintains the highest possible image quality by keeping the video picture in its original Y/R-Y/B-Y form. Connects to high-end video equipment with true Y/PB/PR component video inputs.
  • Two sets of S-Video and composite video outputs for maximum versatility in today's video systems.

Audio

  • 96 kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter is compatible with the full performance of all the linear PCM audio formats in the DVD standard.
  • Variable Coefficient (VC) digital filter lets you adjust the character of sound between 'Sharp" and "Slow" roll-off in accordance with program material.
  • variable analog audio low pass filter automatically provides the right cutoff frequency for low sampling frequencies (44.1 kHz/48 kHz) and high sampling frequency (96 kHz). Improves signal-to-noise ratio and distortion.
  • Digital Outputs for Dolby® Digital and DTS® let you hear multi-channel digital sound from compatible DVD discs. Connects to outboard decoders, such as Sony TA-E9000ES Preamplifier, Sony STR-DA50ES, DA30ES and DE925 A/V Receivers.
  • Audio Priority automatically finds and plays the audio track with the most channels?Dolby Digital or DTS tracks. No more searching through menus.
  • Glass epoxy circuit audio board is extremely resistant to heat and humidity. Sony refined the audio circuit by adopting lavish high-quality audio parts. Twin monaural topology maintains maximum stereo separation.
  • 70 µm copper circuit board traces are twice as thick as conventional designs, for maximum conductivity, minimum noise.
  • R-core power transformer minimizes flux leak-age and hum radiation that might degrade the music. Custom-made high performance aluminum electrolytic condensers also help efficient power supply.
  • audio dynamic range control lets you adjust the audio dynamic range for soundproofed listening rooms.
  • Surround on/off switch for "down mixing" Dolby Digital sound tracks to the two-channel outputs. Lets you optimize the sound track for Dolby Pro Logic® decoding or choose straight stereo output.
  • Optical and coaxial digital outputs for superb system flexibility. In addition, Sony adopted a wide-band 12.5 MHz optical module for an accurate and low-jitter optical connection.
  • Headphone output for private listening.

Construction

  • Center-mount transport
  • Bulk Molding Compounds (BMC) honeycomb chassis and disc tray to reduce vibration that can affect the audio circuits and the servo system. Excess servo voltages can also affect the video and audio quality. Sony fights this with BMC, a compound of polyresin, reinforcing glass fibers and calcium carbonate ? the principal constituent of marble.
  • Aluminum Front Panel helps block air-borne vibration.
  • Copper plated chassis with copper plated screws to reduce electromagnetic noises.
  • OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper) power cord
  • High-Carbon Iron isolating feet are made from extremely heavy castings to minimize shelf-borne vibration.
  • Off-center screw holes in the isolating feet diffuse resonance in the feet themselves.
