Video and Audio on a Single Card

AV Master digitizes video and audio. The combination of audio and video on a single card guarantees lip-synched reproduction. Sound is always played back in sync to the recorded video. AV Master records in stereo and CD quality. As a WAVE file, the audio is compatible with all standard software packages. No additional sound card is required for audio/video mixing and editing.

PCI Bus Mastering

FAST is one of the first producers of video cards worldwide to use the next generation of PCI chips that support bus mastering. With a maximum data transfer rate of 130 MB/s (burst mode) and a compression rate of up to 4:1, this technology optimises the potential of the PCI bus.

Until recently, PCI-based multimedia and video cards have been designed as so-called "slave" cards that access the main processor (CPU) for all operations, occupying it with unnecessary tasks. The PCI bus bandwidth cannot be used efficiently because the CPU acts as a bottleneck. A PCI slave is required to wait until the bus is released or freed by the CPU. Only then can data pass through the bus.

As a bus master card, AV Master prepares the data and instructs a slave (e.g. a hard disk controller) to "retrieve" it. AV Master controls the copy process and is authorized to write directly into main memory (RAM) or to read from it (DMA). The CPU is relieved of the task and free for others. In short: only bus master cards fully utilize the performance capabilities of PCI systems, support high data rates, and efficient, professional work.

Only MediaCache with its data buffer guarantees a constant data stream, thus minimising the number of frames dropped during playback.
