Studio DV lets you transfer digital video from your Digital8 or DV camcorder to your PC. Choose your best shots and arrange them in any order, and then add titles, scene transitions, music, narration, special effects and more. Jazz up your video with more than 100 professional-style scene transitions, and over 300 styles for titles, including neon, metallic, drop shadows and more. Studio DV hardware includes a FireWire/IEEE1394 (DV) digital video capture card that adds 3 digital inputs to your PC, allowing high-speed, high-quality data transfer between your DV camcorder and PC.
Studio DV also addresses the problem of storage, since a single hour of DV footage requires 13GB of free disk space. With Pinnacle Systems' SmartCapture technology, you initially transfer a reduced resolution "preview" version of digital video to the hard drive. One hour of preview-quality video requires only 150 MB of disk space. Once you have selected your favorite scenes, added any additional elements desired such as voice-over narration, titles, background music and special effects, SmartCapture automatically transfers the full resolution data only for the scenes needed to complete the movie at full DV quality.

Step 1: Capture

With Studio DV you can transfer digital video directly from your DV or Digital8 camcorder to your computer's hard drive. Studio DV installs with true plug-and-play ease and upgrades your computer with three high-speed FireWire/IEEE1394 (DV) digital video ports. (These ports provide easy connectivity and increased throughput with your DV camcorder).
Studio DV captures your video, automatically detecting scene changes to place them in the Video Album. If you have limited hard drive space, Studio DV will let you capture an entire 60 minute DV tape on only 150 MB of hard disk space at "preview" quality with SmartCapture, thus saving disk space while editing. After video is captured and edited at preview quality, Studio DV automatically recaptures only the footage needed to make your final movie at full quality. (The amount of disk space required for the final capture is 240 MB per minute.

Step 2: Editing

After the footage has been captured, you simply drag and drop the scenes you want (and in the order you want) to keep onto the Storyboard. Once on the Storyboard you can choose from over 100 scene transitions, including Video SpiceRack Lite transitions from Pixelan Software to give your video a polished look.
Compose custom soundtracks and voice-over narration to be in sync with the action. DV Studio includes Sonic Desktop SmartSound, which generates a custom music soundtrack that exactly matches the duration of a clip or even a whole movie. You can select from a variety of musical styles, from classical to rock and everything in between. A voice-over recorder is also available so you can record your own narration while viewing the video.
Bundled with Pinnacle's world famous TitleDeko character generator software you can choose from over 300 looks and styles, including metallic titles, transparent titles, neon titles and flying titles.
With DV Studio software, you'll never have to wait for a preview to render-you can see your changes in real-time-anytime. Instantly view your edited scenes and special effects to see how the final product will look.
For accurate frame-by-frame editing, switch to the Timeline view, where you can trim each scene to any length while you view it.

Step 3: Distribution

When you are finished, output a videotape or digital movie for e-mail or the Internet. Studio DV uses Intelligent Rendering to use only the footage that you need to make your final movie, saving you time and disk space. Unlike other editing programs, Studio DV does not re-render the entire movie. Instead only the effects-titles and transitions are rendered. You can also combine multiple capture files in a single project, so your video isn't constrained by the 2GB Video for Windows limitation.
